Turcas Wind Energy Generation (Turcas Wind) was
established by Turcas Power Generation on October 25,
2007 as a wholly-owned subsidiary with the intention of
diversifying its power generation projects portfolio and
realizing green-field renewable and sustainable energy
investments. Turcas Wind has applied to EMRA on November
1, 2007 to obtain Power Generation Licenses for a total
of 397.5 MW wind farm projects to generate a total of 1.2
billion kWh per year. These projects are; 70 MW in Gömeç
(Burhaniye, Balıkesir), 50 MW in Kartalkaya (Silifke, Mersin),
50 MW in Gümüşçay (Biga, Çanakkale), 100 MW in
Hacıömerli (Aliağa, İzmir ), 30 MW in Geyikli (Ezine,
Çanakkale) and 97.5 MW in Binkılıç (Çatalca, İstanbul).
Turcas Wind has started to measure wind data by erecting
masts on all sites in 2008 and 2009, and initiated energy
assessment and micrositing studies in 2009. Environmental
Impact Assessment studies were also started in 2009, and
four projects were received positive opinion from regulatory
authorities. Turcas Wind plans to finalize feasibility studies
with recent wind measurements, and bring negotiations
with turbine suppliers to a final stage and receive
Generation Licenses from EMRA in 2010.
It is targeted to start the construction of licensed projects
by 2012 and commence commercial operation by 2014.
Total cost of the investments is estimated to be app. EUR
400 million.
Turcas Energy Holding continues discussions with various
investors to establish a strategic partnership regarding
Turcas Wind's projects.
